C-Weed took the trip to Regina to support the Aboriginal Nominee’s for the 2013 Juno’s. The weekend turned out to be great fun! Friday’s Manitoba event was filled with local stars including Fred Penner, Joey Stylez, Don Amero, and Donny Parenteau, among others, as we celebrated our Manitoban nominees and the excitement for the Juno’s 2014 being held in Winnipeg- the 2014 motto “We speak music”! We’ll I’d say!
There was an honoring ceremony held for the Aboriginal Nominee’s at the Official First Nations University of Canada Campus where nominee’s Don Amero, Danny Parenteau, and Janet Panic, and band members of Burnt Project were present to receive their congratulatory plaques and symbolic traditional blankets designed for the occasion. Although Crystal Shawanda was not present for the honoring ceremony, she was present that evening at the Gala Dinner where she received the Juno Award for the Aboriginal category.
During the gala dinner Saturday night where all the non televised awards were presented, it was pleasure to see Tom Cochrane receive the Humanitarian Award and to witness his humble speech that so much resembled the tone of his songwriting.
Sunday was the televised Juno Awards! So much Canadian talent on stage and highlight performances from k.d. lang, Serena Ryder, Hannah Georgas, and The Sheepdogs.
We look forward to 2014 when the Juno’s will be held here in the heart of the country, where music culture thrives!
